Charges filed after multiple incidents in Ashbridges Bay Park: Police

Two people have been charged and a 23-year-old man is still in hospital after another wild night near the city’s promenade.

A 23-year-old man is in serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in the back during a fight at Toronto’s Ashbridges Bay Park after Victory Day fireworks.

A Division 55 officer says police were called to the park shortly after 11 p.m., and arrived to find the man with two stab wounds to the back.

Paramedics said he was rushed to a hospital hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Investigators said the victim was involved in a disagreement that turned into a physical fight where he was stabbed.

No suspicious information was available.

Police later said they made five arrests for various offenses overnight in and around Ashbridges Bay.

Three people were arrested for lighting fireworks, including a 19-year-old man who allegedly aimed fireworks at a crowd. Police said two of the three were released unconditionally.

Police said a 19-year-old man has been charged with common harassment, carrying a concealed weapon and dangerous weapons.

Two people were also arrested on a TTC bus after threatening with a gun, police said. A firearm was recovered and was considered a replica. One of them was later released without charge, while the other, an 18-year-old man, was charged with common harassment.

Monday night represented a significant drop in the level of violence at meetings in nearby Woodbine Beach Park the day before.

That night, two people were shot dead, one was stabbed, two others were robbed at gunpoint and seven policemen were injured, some after being hit by live fireworks fired by crowds.

Police said most of the people who gathered in the park to watch the fireworks were quiet.

Investigators continue to ask for information about the multiple incidents that took place on Sunday and Monday in the area.
