Can Scottie Scheffler take his fifth (!) PGA Tour victory of the season on Sunday? This is the question around which the entire final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge revolves. Scheffler takes a two-stroke lead until Sunday, and the last time he was in a similar position on a Saturday night, he went out and won a green jacket on Sunday afternoon.
The consequent tartan jacket this time around is a little less prestigious, but a win in the Dallas-Fort Worth area would be significant for Scheffler, and getting five wins in a season is rarer than you might think. . Since 1981, only six golfers have led the PGA Tour with at least five wins in a season. Scheffler could arrive at five on Sunday, and then he would have to wait to see if anyone could catch him at the end of the year.
Scheffler’s pursuers aren’t great all the time. That doesn’t mean he has won it, he still has to go out to play golf, but it does mean that it would be amazing if he didn’t. It’s amazing to try to come back and tell you about January 31, when Scheffler had never won the PGA Tour. Now, you’d be in a position where you’d be surprised if I didn’t close out the No. 5 win. But here’s where we are, and if Sunday is half as much fun as its last three months, we should be. to a whole show.
