Marvel Studios has prepared some evil plans for Echo, the upcoming Disney + series currently being filmed in Atlanta.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who played the classic Marvel Comics characters Daredevil and The Kingpin, respectively, have joined the series, starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, the protagonist of Ul de Falcó. Marvel made no comment.
The move is the latest sign of Marvel Studios ’efforts to weave popular characters from the defunct Netflix Marvel shows, such as Daredevil. Sources say Echo will include a plot in which Daredevil, whose alter ego is blind lawyer Matt Murdoch, is looking for a former ally. Podcast The Weekly Planet has reported that the ally is Jessica Jones, another Marvel character who starred in her own Netflix series and was played by Krysten Ritter. If Ritter as Jones makes an appearance in Echo, this would leave Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Punisher as the street-level crime fighters still to be reintroduced into the Marvel film universe.
Cox played Matt Murdock / Daredevil in three 2015-18 Daredevil seasons, as well as the 2017 team series The Defenders, while D’Onofrio played archenemy Wilson Fisk / Kingpin in the first and third seasons of Daredevil. The duo became a fan favorite and set a high bar for what could seem like a conflict between superheroes and villain on TV. Cox’s time as Daredevil was cut short when Netflix, which had a deal with Disney to produce Marvel projects, canceled Daredevil in 2018 as Disney prepared to launch its own competing streaming service, Disney + .
Cox thought he had left Murdock behind, but in June 2020 he received a call from Marvel boss Kevin Feige asking if he was interested in returning. In December 2021, the audience saw that secret conversation bear fruit when Murdock made a one-scene cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) lawyer.
Meanwhile, a few days before No Way Home hit theaters, it was revealed that D’Onofrio was Hawkeye’s big bad guy. In the following months, Disney + moved Daredevil and other Netflix shows to the service (with a warning label for mature viewers) and ordered a new Daredevil series, which would technically be its fourth season.
According to the study, Echo follows Maya Lopez (Cox), while her life in New York as a band leader updates her and she returns to her hometown to reconnect with her Native American roots. She has already become entangled with Kingpin in a fight in the Hawkeye final after learning that she was responsible for the death of her beloved uncle, William Lopez (Zahn McClarnon). McClarnon gets his role, along with other cast members like Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning and Graham Greene. Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie direct episodes with Marion Dayre as lead writer. The series is expected to arrive in 2023.
In February, Cox told THR that he wanted to reunite with D’Onofrio on screen: “I imagine, I hope, that our worlds will collide again because the things we’ve done in the past were a lot of fun to do. , and he’s a lot of fun. An amazing actor. ” D’Onofrio, meanwhile, revealed to THR in December that he and Cox are staying close and have held two-hour talks about their returns to the MCU.
Cox is represented by UTA, Range Media Partners and United Agents in the UK. D’Onofrio is represented by UTA, Silver Lining Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
