Want to increase your broadband? There are some very simple tips that can help speed up these important downloads. Virgin Media has just posted some vital tips on your router and users should take note as it could help stop the stuttering.
This flashing black box in the corner of the room may not sound so exciting, but your router is vital to accessing the web. Small tweaks can improve the connection and also remove any issues that may be causing you to connect.
First of all, Virgin says that it is very important not to put the router behind the TV or put it in a closet. “Make sure you keep your Hub outdoors,” says the broadband company. “Objects can block and slow down WiFi. Signals from baby monitors and cordless phones can also interfere with WiFi signals.”
If possible, Virgin advises having about a meter of free space around the router if you want the best experience and that’s not all.
It is also a good practice to keep the concentrator upright, with the lights facing the room. This way, your strongest Wi-Fi signal from your hub goes out, not to the floor.

So this is the first tip. Then it seems that restarting things can improve the health of your broadband. Over time, routers become clogged with data, and turning things on and off can work wonders. Virgin advises that users should turn off their Hub from time to time and then wait at least 10 seconds before turning it back on. This should help restore things and clear up any issues that may be slowing you down.
A word of caution! It can take up to five minutes to reset, so make sure no one is in the middle of a movie or about to make a major Zoom call before turning things off.
The last tip is to make sure you’re the only ones connected to your Wi-Fi network, as neighbors who are connected to your connection can stop things.
All Virgin Media Hubs have a unique Wi-Fi password phrase to ensure that only you and those you give the password to access your Wi-Fi network.
If you think someone might have access, you can change your password with Virgin by offering comprehensive tips through their website. Once changed, anyone using your broadband will be blocked without permission.
So you’ve got all these tips in place … now it’s worth taking a speed test to see if you’re getting the speed Virgin promises you.
The speedtest.net website has been approved by Virgin, so this is a good place to start. Go to the webpage and tap “Run test”, you’ll be given the results, and you’ll see how fast or slow things really are.
IF things aren’t up to par, it’s worth checking the gears for a few days to see if things get better. If not, have the results on hand and call Virgin.
