Chelsea are interested in signing Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig this summer and believe they have a chance of moving him away from the German club, according to reports.

Nkunku, 24, has been a revelation in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 20 goals in 34 appearances and also making 13 assists.

The Frenchman will be out of contract for two years and is expected to negotiate a new deal with his current club.

However, according to Goal, Chelsea are growing confident that they can disrupt talks and tempt Nkunku with a move to Stamford Bridge.

But West Londoners will have to fight Real Madrid, who are also believed to be following suit.

Nkunku is well valued by Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United, who was surprised to learn that his own scouting department was not looking forward.

Nkunku, who was named Bundesliga Player of the Year, would be an attractive choice for the Blues whose attacking players have struggled this season.

Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have not been able to get a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku has only scored eight goals in the Premier League since moving to Chelsea from Inter Milan last summer.

With Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger confirmed to leave the club with free transfers, it was thought that much of Chelsea’s focus on the summer window was on defense.

However, poor forward performance in the second half of the season has revealed problems in the attacking areas of the team.

Speaking last week, Tuchel suggested he would look to sign new strikers this summer.

He told reporters: “If we join the group, we will try to solve it with these players. Do we need to bring more offensive players around the box to create more distractions, to create more space for each other?

“The numbers we get from our offensive players do not allow us to over-perform and we need over-performance if we want to be closer to the top two teams.

“I’m not pointing the finger, I don’t blame anyone, but we need over-performance from everyone. It’s not over-performance if we only have unique numbers in scoring and attendance.”
