A man who subjected a child to 11 years of sexual assault has been jailed.
Alan Dreha, 70, of Hanmer Road, Kirkby, abused his victim between 1990 and 2001. After a trial in May, he was convicted of 14 counts of sexual assault.
At Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday (June 23), he was jailed for 17 years, plus two on leave.

Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan said: “Dreha denied his offense, which means his victim was forced to endure a trial. We welcome the fact that he now spends a considerable amount of time behind bars to consider the consequences of their actions.
“I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Dreha victim for her courage in presenting herself to denounce her crimes and the dignity they have shown throughout this entire investigation.
“While no sentence will repair the damage caused by Dreha’s abuse, I hope that seeing Dreha sent to prison for a long time will give her victim a kind of closure and allow her to continue with their lives. knowing that you can’t hurt anyone else.
“We are committed to protecting victims of sexual offenses, and anyone who informs us of an incident will be protected and supported throughout the investigation.
“Anyone who has been the victim of a sex crime, is concerned about the safety of someone who knows or suspects that someone is participating in this criminal activity, should introduce themselves and talk to us. We have a team of dedicated staff that will deal with your reports in an expert and compassionate manner and we will do our best to bring criminals to justice.
“Time is no obstacle to reporting crimes and I urge anyone who has been a victim of a sex crime at any time to come forward and we will do our best to help and support them.”
