Chris Dawson’s murder trial has raised questions about a possible sighting of his wife Lynette, months after his disappearance in 1982.
Today, a police interview recorded in 2019 in the Supreme Court of Dawson’s brother-in-law, Ross Hutcheon, who died six weeks ago, has been played.
The interview focused on Hutcheon’s sighting of Lyn at a bus stop in front of Gladesville Hospital up to six months after her disappearance.

“She looked like the Lyn I met … the same hair color, the same hairstyle, no sunglasses, no obvious attempt to dress up or anything like that,” Hutcheon told detectives.
Hutcheon says he told his wife about the possible sighting that night and two agents later in 1999, but meeting notes show no record of that information.
“Isn’t there talk of Gladesville?” Hutcheon asked the police officer after reading the police notes.
The police officer replied, “No.”
“Wrong, wrong,” Hutcheon said.
“Are you sure you told them?” the police officer asked Hutcheon.
“Certainly this is wrong,” Hutcheon replied as he returned the papers.

The next time the alleged sighting was raised was in 2018 after Dawson was accused of killing his missing mother.
“Oh well, things started to get really serious, especially when he was accused and what do you have, I thought, ‘Wow, you better do something about it,'” Hutcheon said in the interview.
Dawson’s sister, also known as Lynette, was asked by the prosecutor why she didn’t talk about sightings with her family for 36 years.
He told the judge that he always assumed that his sister-in-law had gotten up and left and that he never imagined that he would be treated like a murder.

The Crown asked if the comment was raised at the same time as the Teacher’s Pet podcast, which raised suspicions about the case.
Dawson denies killing his wife, insisting that she fled and never returned.
