Climate: Britain will be affected by 55 mph storms as the tail of the tropical storm passes

Experts have warned that the UK could suffer storms approaching 55 mph as the remnants of a tropical storm move across the country.

Winds, which are expected to peak on Saturday, will extend from the west of Scotland to the south-east of England.

Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge said it was unusual to get such a “vigorous low pressure system.”

“It’s quite windy this weekend, in fact, unusually windy,” he said.

Unstable weather is the result of the former tropical storm Alex, the first Atlantic named storm this year, which killed three people in Cuba at its height.

Scotland will carry the weight of Alex, with winds of force eighty which are expected to cause disruptions to the ferries.

“It’s bringing in some pretty big seas,” Mr Partridge said.

“There will actually be a lot of sun for the next few days. Without the wind it would be very good, but the wind will blow away a bit.”

However, the south-east could see temperatures of up to 24 ° C (75.2 ° F), while central and southern England will be around 22 ° C (71.6 ° F) or 23 ° C (73.4 ° F).

Winds are expected to ease from Sunday as the remnants of Storm Alex continue to move north.
