Major Conservatives have warned that the Conservative Party is falling apart and have called for an end to the toxic briefing against Rishi Sunak, the leadership leader.
Two former party leaders and a former chancellor demanded a ceasefire after Boris Johnson’s allies at No. 10 accused Sunak of “treason” for provoking the prime minister’s departure.
Taxes, on which Sunak and Johnson have been in contention for a long time, are becoming the most divisive topic of the contest. Sunak had refused to cancel the planned corporate tax increase, which is due to take effect from next April.
