Couples actually go up

A new stretch of census data shows that Canadians are increasingly likely to live in law unions rather than officially tying the knot.
Statistics Canada today released results from the 2021 national census showing that 23% of couples living together are unmarried.
The agency says that over the past 40 years, the number of couples has in fact increased by 447 percent.
During the same period, the number of married couples increased by only 26 percent.
Statistics Canada says this country now has the highest proportion of common law unions in the G7.
He says this is due in part to the union’s popularity in Quebec, where 43% of de facto couples live in Canada.
