Deaths from COVID-19 are rising again with Australia on the verge of killing at least 80 people over the weekend.
Victoria reported more than 7,300 new virus cases and 16 deaths on Sunday, while NSW reported more than 6,500 infections and four deaths.
WA recorded 8665 deaths and seven deaths on Saturday.
In all, the nation reported 58 deaths and nearly 34,000 cases on Saturday.
There are currently nearly 315,000 active cases of COVID nationwide, with more than 2,700 patients recovering in hospitals.
Meanwhile, the effect of COVID-19 on children’s education is not over, warns one of Australia’s leading charities.
A survey by the Smith family found that one in two parents and caregivers felt that the pandemic was still making it difficult for their children to learn.
About three-quarters of parents and caregivers care about their children’s future schoolwork and have struggled to help them during the pandemic.
Two-thirds say the virus has made it difficult to start school this year.
The report comes as the charity begins its last winter call, hoping to raise $ 5.4 million nationwide to support 12,000 students through mentoring and extracurricular programs.
Elsewhere, nearly 600,000 Victorians have filed pandemic discount claims for pottery classes, museum exhibits, cellar lunches and other events during the month since they were offered.
More than a quarter of the requests have been for theater and the performing arts, and Hamilton and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child are the most popular, according to Tourism Minister Martin Pakula.
Film shopping accounted for 26 per cent of claims, while live music also accounted for 13 per cent of customers claiming gigs.
The Victorian government launched the plan on March 29.
“We are encouraging Victorians to take this great opportunity to go out, have dinner, watch a show and support some of the local businesses hardest hit by the pandemic,” Pakula said.
