COVID cases have risen again in WA, as a new study reveals that Australia’s Omicron count was more likely to be double what was officially recorded.
WA had 4,097 new infections on Monday, up from 3,896 on Sunday, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 30,727.
This included 268 people in hospital and 12 in intensive care.
There were two deaths dating back to June 12 that were women between the ages of 80 and 90.

Of the new cases, 2882 were diagnosed by RAT and 1215 were PCR tests.
WA has now recorded 855,855 cases since the start of the pandemic.
It occurs when blood samples revealed that the actual number of cases of COVID was twice what was recorded.
Antibody samples were taken after the country’s peak COVID in late February and early March, roughly when the WA infection rate began to rise after the border opened.
The National Antibody Study by the National Center for Immunization Research and Surveillance and the UNSW Sydney’s Kirby Institute found that around 17% of Australian adults were infected with the virus by the end of the summer.
The highest number of adults with antibodies was in Queensland, with 26% of the population indicating that they had fought the virus, some unintentionally.
It was followed by Victoria with 23 per cent and New South Wales with 21 per cent.
WA had the lowest antibody level after it by just 0.5 per cent, after being locked behind Prime Minister Mark McGowan’s hard border.
Kirby Institute project principal researcher Dorothy Machalek said the overall pattern of antibody positivity in the blood showed large outbreaks in NSW and Victoria at the time, but limited transmission to WA.
