Mark McGowan is ready to remove daily COVID-19 case updates on his Facebook page, saying they were no longer needed.
Instead, it will provide weekly summaries that provide a snapshot of the situation of COVID-19 in WA.
“I hope this continues to be a useful tool as long as the pandemic continues,” he wrote in a Facebook post Monday night.
Although the pandemic is not over, the Prime Minister said WA was now in a different place to where we were 27 months ago when he started giving the daily COVID cases.
WA Health’s first daily update was offered on March 5, 2020, “an incredibly uncertain time, with great concern in the community for the future,” according to McGowan.
“We wanted to provide a unique place for Western Australians to find out the latest information on the virus, whether it’s the number of daily cases or tips on what to do.
“Hopefully, it provided the community with a little bit of confidence and peace of mind during what was a difficult and stressful time.”
McGowan said his latest daily update will be released on Friday, but daily updates would still be available on the WA Health website.
In Tuesday’s daily update, WA Health reported a total of 4885 new cases, up from 4097 on Monday.
There have also been six deaths since June 11: a woman and a man in their 90s, two women in their 80s, a man in their 70s and a woman in their 60s.
The number of people hospitalized fell to 259, with eight people in intensive care.
