COVID in WA: New cases fall more than 2000 in 24 hours to 4849

WA’s daily COVID cases have continued to decline, and health authorities have reported a total of 4849 new cases in the last 24 hours, with 16 people now in intensive care.

Statewide active cases fell by more than 2,000 in the past 24 hours, with one more recorded death: an 80-year-old man who died on May 30.

With 41,244 active cases in Western Australia on WA day, the state has seen a total of about 20,000 active cases fall in just over a week.

As of 8:00 pm Sunday night, there were 279 people with COVID-19 in hospitals across the WA.

Of the 4,849 new cases, 1,399 were confirmed by the PCR test, with the remaining 3,450 rapid self-reported positive antigen tests.

The vast majority of new cases were reported in the Perth metropolitan area, with 3958 new infections in the city and suburbs.

There were 52 new cases in the Goldfields, 110 in the Great Southern, 53 in the Kimberley, 114 in the Midwest, 89 in the Pilbara, 327 in the Southwest and 93 in the Wheatbelt.

A total of 5,806 PCR tests were performed on Sunday at public or private pathology clinics.

WA has now reported 775,741 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
