COVID WA: Daily figures increase by almost 1,000, but active cases fall substantially

The daily number of COVID cases has risen nearly 1,000 in WA amid concerns that they could continue to rise later this week in the wake of long weekend events.

WA Health reported on Tuesday that 5,787 new cases had been reported in 24 hours by 8pm, compared to 4,849 the day before, which was the lowest daily total since mid-March.

Two deaths were also reported, dating back several days, while the number of hospital cases rose from 11 to 290.

Of these, 15 are in intensive care, a decrease from the previous 16.

Active cases have dropped substantially to 38,598, with a decrease of more than 2,600 cases.

This follows a drop of about 20,000 active cases in just over a week.
