Cowichan Lake man dies after logging truck loses cargo in Comox Valley

The loaded truck appears to have overturned before losing its load of logs to the parked van.

A man on Lake Cowichan has been killed and a woman injured after a wooden truck lost its load, crushing a parked van on a road in the Comox Valley.

The Comox Valley RCMP continues to investigate after the logging truck lost its cargo around 2:35 p.m. Tuesday at the northbound entry ramp to Highway 19 on the Comox Valley Highway.

The loaded truck appears to have overturned before losing its load of logs to the parked van.

“It looks like the truck had stopped on the side of the road and the man was standing outside when the logging truck turned the corner and lost the load, causing the logs to fall on them.” , said Const. Monika Terragni of the RCMP of Comox Valley.

Emergency services worked to get the woman out of the truck and took her to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the death of the 43-year-old man.

BC Highway Patrol in Campbell River asks anyone who has seen the crash, observed vehicles before the crash, or has board camera images to be contacted at 250-286-5646.
