Crime and Court man shot dead in unprovoked attack with Q train on Manhattan Bridge: NYPD

A man was killed Sunday after being hit in the chest by a teammate who pulled out a gun and fired at close range in a shooting that authorities say was unprovoked.

The shooting took place on a northbound Q train crossing the Manhattan Bridge around 11:45 a.m. police said at a news conference.

Witnesses told police the suspect walked back and forth on the last train car before displaying a firearm and shooting a 48-year-old driver “without provocation.” There had been no previous contact between the two men, they said.

Police said the gunman fled the Q train after arriving at his next stop at Canal Street station. Officers were called to the station where they discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to the torso.

Emergency crews provided assistance and transported the man to Bellevue Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. Her identity was hidden pending family notification.

Traffic officers were reviewing the MTA surveillance video in hopes of locating the suspect and his movements along the traffic system.

Police said the suspect was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, gray tracksuit pants and white sneakers.

The shooting disrupted service on the N and Q trains, which were diverted to the R line between Dekalb Avenue and Canal Street.

N / Q trains run on the R line between DeKalb Av and Canal St in both directions, while New York City police continue to investigate Canal St.
