Daily Authority: πŸ“² Google Pixel 6a reviews are available

🏊 Good Friday everyone! I spent the week in Madrid, which in retrospect wasn’t the best idea with a heat wave making the temperatures unbearable. Thank goodness for swimming pools!

The Pixel 6a reviews are in, and it looks like a winner… mostly

Google’s latest mid-range devices launch next week, and reviews are already available on the web. So is it worth your cash? Well, a little.

  • Our own Ryan Haines wrote in our review that it “packs some of the Pixel 6’s best features into a smaller, more affordable package.”
  • And considering how much we liked the Pixel 6, that’s high praise.
  • We’re also happy to report that it doesn’t retain the connection issues that have plagued the Pixel 6 since launch.
  • Essentially, you get great image processing (with an admittedly worse lens) and the same great software and long-term upgrade support.
  • Of course, that update promise is still a bit Samsung-shy, with only three years of Android version updates compared to Samsung’s four on select devices. However, both offer five years of security updates.
  • The real plus is that you can use it with one hand, which can’t be said for the rest of the Pixel family.
  • It also offers the same flagship Tensor processor as its more premium siblings. Although it did get a little hot during testing.
  • Other reviewers around the web had largely the same sentiment:

The catch

  • While the Pixel 6a is still better value at launch than the Pixel 5a, it’s in an odd spot in the market.
  • At just a hair under $450, it’s creeping right behind the base model Pixel 6 ($600).
  • $150 is nothing to scoff at, but in this case, you really are getting a lot of money.
  • It’s sturdier, has better cameras, better battery life, faster charging, wireless charging, and a 90Hz screen. Check out our full comparison for more details.
  • Not to mention the fact that it’s been out for a while and can often be found at a steep discount.

availability

  • The Pixel 6a will go on sale on July 28 in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Australia, Singapore and Taiwan.
  • The phone will also be available in India later in 2022.
  • Pre-orders are now open and include a free pair of Pixel Buds A headphones.

Roundup

🐒 If you’re picking up a Pixel 6a, you need to check out these killer ninja turtles themed skins from Dbrand (Android Authority).

πŸ“… As for foldables, the Motorola Razr 2022 will launch in August, just before the Galaxy Z Flip 4 on August 10 (Android Authority).

πŸ’Έ Speaking of which, rumors indicate that the Z Flip 4 could be significantly more expensive than last year’s model. Thanks inflation (Android Authority).

Now, the company has announced a new set based on the iconic Atari 2600 console, due out in August. It joins the (arguably even more impressive) NES set released in 2020, with plenty of hidden details for added nostalgia. Sure, the sets cost almost as much as a new console, but that’s no surprise to Lego fans.
