ENVIRONMENTAL WEATHER ALERT CANADA ************************* Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for:
- Guelph – Erin – South Wellington County
- Kitchener – Cambridge – Waterloo Region
- Mount Forest – Arthur – North Wellington County
Conditions are favorable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The main threat with these storms is damaging wind gusts. Large hail and torrential rain are minor threats. Also, the possibility of a tornado cannot be ruled out.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong gusts of wind can damage buildings, down trees and take large vehicles off the road. Severe lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Remember that severe storms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water logging on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go home!
A severe thunderstorm watch is issued when atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of storms that may produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rain.
The Office of the Fire and Emergency Management recommends that you take shelter immediately if threatening weather is approaching.
