Danny Hodgson: Golf Day created to raise much-needed funds for cowardly victims

Danny Hodgson, who spent nearly 200 days in hospital with a catastrophic brain injury after a coup attack in front of Perth train station, fears he may not have children after being paralyzed on the left side.

The 26-year-old was placed in an induced coma after receiving a cowardly punch in an unprovoked attack on 5 September.

Since that day, Hodgson has said that his entire life has changed and that while he continues to recover, he and his family are now struggling financially.

“I’m improving. It’s a very long recovery, and that’s if I get better,” he told 6PR on Friday.

“I’m taking it every day as it presents itself right now.”

The 26-year-old said he fears he will not be able to have children as he remains paralyzed on his left side and still needs help walking.

“I need my dad to hold my hand because otherwise I stumble and fall, but it’s all good progress.

“Unfortunately, I’ve lost all the sensations on my left side, so the physiotherapists are just trying to regain some sensation and movement on my left side. That includes my hand and my arm stuff like that.

“The part of my brain that’s destroyed is the left part that works, and I’ve also lost the smell, so I hope it comes back over time.”

Hodgson has had to modify his home to make it as adapted to the disabled as possible as he continues his long recovery journey. He said he has felt the state join behind him and support him during his recovery.

“If it weren’t for all the people of Western Australia, I would be in a different situation right now,” he said.

“We have no income and without all the donations from the people of Western Australia, we would be in a real struggle.

“We’re grateful for everyone here.”

The British citizen is unable to receive any assistance from Centrelink as he is not yet an Australian citizen and cannot work due to the extent of his injuries, so the family is asking the public to help raise funds for the 26-year-old. years. needs.

A fundraiser for golf day has been planned for October of this year to help raise much-needed funds for Danny and his family.

Yanchep’s Sun City Country Club hosts the fundraising event on October 24, with major sponsors joining in to help where they can.

“Any help from anyone, we really, really, really appreciate it right now,” he said.

“Hyundai Wanneroo is sponsoring a hole so you can win a car.

“If you make a hole in one, you can win the car.”

Father Peter Hodgson said he stayed in Australia to help Danny financially while his wife, Nicola, traveled back to the UK to care for his other children.

“I will stay the time I need to help Danny and Jess and support them

“I will only give Danny as much support and help as possible… I have recently started working to try to bring money home for Danny.

“If it’s years, it’s years. That’s what it is. “
