Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) Shares have risen today ahead of a new MacBook Air advance announcement. Investors and fans of Apple suspect that the tech giant will present its new iteration of the popular laptop at this year’s World Developers Conference (WWDC).

According to a recent Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple has several potential announcements ready for the WWDC, scheduled for June 3 this year.

According to Gurman, the Mac side of Apple’s business remains the most likely candidate for a hardware presentation at WWDC.

If there is any hardware in WWDC, it will probably be next to Mac. The company aims to launch the next MacBook Air with M2 chips at the conference. The recent supply chain crisis over Covid-related closures in China has complicated it, but developers say Apple employees are increasingly using next-generation MacBook Air with their apps. This is a sign that the new Mac is near.

The WWDC is usually when Apple’s leadership delves into its software plans for next year. This time, however, Apple fans have a lot of rumored ads to look forward to in various dimensions of the company. The new MacBook Air is likely to top the list, which will be the biggest redesign in Air history.

Apple has been aiming to launch the new MacBook Air for some time, but has had to deal with supply chain issues arising from Covid-19-related closures in China. Still, there is evidence and hope that the June WWDC will feature the new Air, equipped with the next-generation M2 chip.

The existence of AAPL rises above possible WWDC announcements

It is also rumored that the company will announce new MacBook Pro models. As such, tech enthusiasts expect to see a whole new class of Apple laptops at WWDC. This includes:

  • A mid-weight Air model, complete with eight CPU cores and 10 GPU cores.
  • A mini MacBook with the same specifications as the Air.
  • A high-end 14 or 16-inch MacBook Pro with “M2 Max” chips, with 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores.

Apple can also show off its latest and greatest operating system, iOS 16. This new version of iOS is expected to have a number of new and improved features. Highlights include better support for multitasking and added multitasking on the iPad, updates to the Messaging & Health apps, and a new lock screen makeover.

There are also some indications that the company could also present its long-awaited mixed reality headset, although Gurman is hesitant about a full revelation of “realityOS”.

As for the new hardware … although Apple’s upcoming mixed reality headset is advancing at full steam, underlined by the recent demonstration of the device at the company’s board, I would be wary of waiting for a full presentation for developers and consumers next week.

The AAPL has risen less than one percent so far today, on an otherwise lukewarm day for the markets.
