Dell is completely overhauling its 2 in 1 XPS 13 laptop today revealing a new design that is a tablet rather than a slim laptop with a reversible hinge. The 2022 model swaps the reversible hinge for an XPS Folio keyboard case, which closely resembles Apple’s Magic Keyboard for the iPad. It connects magnetically to the XPS 13 2 in 1 and allows the device to be transformed into a laptop instead of a standalone tablet.
The XPS Folio Magnetic will support three angles: 100 degrees, 112.5 degrees, and 125 degrees, and there is even a stylus that attaches to the top of the device for charging. Dell designed the XPS Stylus for both right-handed and left-handed users, and it should run for about 50 days on a full charge. Both the folio and the pencil will be sold separately.

This is also the first Dell XPS to offer optional 5G connectivity along with eSIM support. There will be two models available when the new XPS 13 2 in 1 is launched in late summer. The standard Wi-Fi model comes with machined aluminum, while the 5G model has a Gorilla Glass 7 back to eliminate signal interference and a darker whiteboard color.
Inside, Dell is making use of Intel’s latest 12th generation Core i5 and i7 processors. You can choose between the i5-1230U (a 10-core CPU up to 4.4 GHz) or the i7-1250U (a 10-core CPU up to 4.7 GHz). There is also a choice of 8 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 1 GB of PCIe 4 SSD storage.

Dell uses a 13-inch 3: 2 (2880 x 1920) panel that has a 500-night rating and supports DisplayHDR 400. Port selection is limited to only two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports that support DisplayPort and Power Delivery. . Dell drops the headphone jack and even the microSD card reader found in previous XPS 13 2 in 1 models, but a USB-C to USB-A adapter is shipped in the box along with an adapter 3.5mm USB-C Headset
However, Dell does not appear to be compromising the cameras. There’s a high-resolution 1080p (5 megapixel) front-facing webcam with Windows Hello support, and a 4K (11-megapixel) webcam on the back for capturing videos and photos.
The new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 will launch this summer, but Dell has yet to announce an exact release date or price.
