The three-day hearing on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is over. So when will Judge Sue L. Robinson issue a decision?
According to various reports, he has asked both parties to file writs in support of their respective positions before Monday, July 11th. At this point, you will have everything you need to make a decision.
When you do, it will generate a written document, possibly 20 pages or more. It will make findings of fact that will be binding in the appeal process. You will then apply the Personal Behavior Policy and any other relevant considerations to these facts to make a decision.
Our guess (and it’s just an assumption) is that the decision will come on Monday, July 25th. The appeal process will then potentially unfold, unless she decides not to impose any discipline.
Again, their findings will in fact be binding in the appeal process. These findings will also go a long way in helping the media and fans understand the reasoning behind the final decision.
We hope that Judge Robinson’s written decision will be published. When it comes to players, there is always transparency. If Watson is to be punished with little or no harshness, the league must wait for Judge Robinson to give a clear and persuasive explanation of the outcome. The league will also have to publish its decision so that everyone can see it, not sweep it under the rug as it did with the situation of the commanders.
