An Innisfail man with a long criminal record is arrested again after an investigation by the RCMP into suspected drug trafficking.
According to RCMP officials, officers found on Saturday that Mitch Engler, 36, was in breach of a court-ordered release. RCMP members of the Innisfail, Olds and Sundre detachments tracked down Engler and he was later arrested at an Olds post.
A search resulted in the confiscation of undisclosed amounts of:
- fentanyl;
- GHB;
- cocaine;
- methamphetamine; i,
- Cash.
Officers also found drug paraphernalia, a stun gun and bear spray.
The repeat offender faces new charges of:
- Possession of a prohibited weapon for dangerous purposes;
- Having a prohibited weapon without a license;
- Driving while prohibited;
- Possession of misdemeanor property for less than $ 5,000;
- Four crimes of possession for trafficking purposes; i,
- Three charges of non-compliance with parole.
Engler remained in custody prior to his Didsbury provincial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
Engler was charged in 2018 in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a man at gunpoint in Didsbury. CTV News has not yet confirmed the outcome of the kidnapping court case and will update this story once the details are verified.
