Digital Extremes announces a new fantasy MMO, Soulframe

In a surprise move, Digital Extremes has announced a new title called Soulframe. The Warframe developer made the announcement during the main presentation of TennoCon. The team presented their new project to the world through a film trailer. For Soulframe, Digital Extremes will move from science fiction scenarios that have proven to be a huge hit for them with Warframe, and instead explore a fantasy environment.

“With the themed elements and the construction of the Soulframe world, we’re really looking to get back to our childhood favorites and get inspired by the elaborate fantasy worlds we fell in love with as we grew up,” said Soulframe creative director Geoff Crookes. “Our team is very interested in this clashing idea of nature and humanity, and we will explore many of these issues with our own lens as we play with ideas for restoration and exploration.”

In the trailer, we were able to see a figure with a prosthesis on a beach, then witness the same enemies fighting with a seemingly magical sword. They were able to use magic to strike and freeze enemies before releasing a huge wolf that had been chained. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see any games, and a release date is far enough apart because the team didn’t even hint when it might be.

This is the first new Digital Extremes game since the release of Warframe in 2013. Many of Warframe’s senior leaders will move on to the project. Great news for many fans of the game, Rebecca Ford, known for her passionate fan base as Space Mom, will take on the role of warframe game director.

This story is unfolding.
