Hughes is being deported because he is an illegal citizen, having resigned from his Australian citizenship in 2020.
Hughes has been behind bars since 2014 for sexually and indecently assaulting four girls during the 1980s and 1990s.
His wife claims to have found treatment for him in the UK.
In 2014, a jury found him guilty of 10 counts of sexual and indecent acts on four girls in the 1980s and 1990s. (Wolter Peeters / The Sydney Morning Herald)
A psychological report from Corrective Services NSW last month referred to Hughes as “a categorical denier who has no empathy for the victim.”
During a hearing by the NSW State Parole Authority in May, the judge noted that “there is nothing available for him in prison.”
