Don’t buy Google’s official Pixel cases

Smartphones and cases go hand in hand. After all, these handheld computers we carry everywhere are expensive and fragile; it only makes sense to protect them. Smartphone manufacturers like Google know this and make their own cases to sell you along with one of their devices. However, when Google asks if you want one of their cases when you get a new Pixel phone, say no.

According to The Verge, there are dozens of complaints on both Reddit and Amazon about the official Google Pixel 6 cases, around three main issues that seem to be recurring with these cases: the material is yellowish; cases do not fit phones; and, if they fit into the phones, the case itself is deformed, so that the material protrudes around the buttons. Some even accuse cases of scratching their phones, which is, of course, what you buy a case to avoid.

A post by Redditor A_Giant_Baguette that included photos caught the attention of the ar / googlepixel crowd. You can see from this image how the case deforms around the Pixel volume buttons, while this photo shows how the case has turned yellow. These issues have been reported to have arisen over seven months, which is too fast for a $ 30 ($ 42) smartphone case, especially one made by the same company as the phone itself.

Even worse, seven months is a long time compared to the experiences of some other clients, who reported that their cases started to deteriorate after two or three weeks. Whether your case looks new for two weeks or seven months, you have a right to feel frustrated with a clearly defective product.

This is not to say that everyone who buys a Google case for their Pixel will experience these problems. If you scan the review pages to find them, you will find many positive reviews in addition to the complaints. However, complaints are hard to ignore. Some users who bought through the Google Amazon store can’t even get their money back; A_Giant_Baguette, who identifies him, reports that when they asked Amazon for a refund, they sent them to Google, which in turn sent them back to Amazon.

When they finally got in touch with someone from Google, they were told that the company does not offer warranties on products purchased through third parties, even though this “third party” was Google’s official store on Amazon. (Take another lesson here: Don’t buy anything made on Google from anyone other than Google if you want Google to cover it).

For now, the best way is to look for the Pixel case elsewhere. Hopefully, Google will figure out the problem and do it better with the next case. The company’s fabric cases were a hit, so we may see them back for the Pixel 7, if not one of Google’s other devices.
