Several wildfires in Alberta over the long weekend in May were caused by abandoned bonfires.
It’s something we hope we won’t see here at BC Interior this year.
The Alberta Forest Fire Service reports that its crews were called to 85 wildfires over the long weekend in May. Most of the flames were caused by abandoned bonfires.
Our crews responded to 85 wildfires over the long weekend in May. Most of them were caused by abandoned bonfires. Don’t be part of the problem! And remember, leaving your fire unattended could result in a $ 600 fine. #ABWildfire pic.twitter.com/I6TQyDv8wS

In a social media post, Alberta Wildfire said, “Don’t be part of the problem!” He also warned that leaving a fire unattended could result in a $ 600 violation.
In recent days, several forest fires have also started in this province due to people working outside with equipment that can cause sparks or friction.
Alberta Wildfire points out that dry grass can be easily picked up and burned quickly. “Be careful when working outdoors! Last year, 67 percent of forest fires were caused by humans,” the publication said.
Here in BC, the fine for leaving a bonfire unattended is $ 1,150. If a forest fire occurs, those responsible could be ordered to pay all extinction and associated costs.
