Dr. Anthony Fauci, leader of the U.S. government’s Covid Pandemic Response Effort, has tested positive for coronavirus.
Fauci, who is fully vaccinated and twice reinforced against Covid, is experiencing mild symptoms, according to a statement Wednesday from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which he heads.
“Dr. Fauci will be isolated and will continue to work from home,” the statement said. “He has not been in close contact with the president recently [Joe] Biden or other senior government officials. “
In addition to being the director of NIAID, which is a division of the National Institutes of Health, Fauci is also Biden’s chief medical adviser.
NIAID said in a statement that Fauci will follow Covid-19’s guidelines issued by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and “his doctor’s medical advice and will return to the NIH when he refuses.”
