Victoria police arrested a man after pointing a gun at a driver who was going to meet his daughter for breakfast on Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the intersection of Douglas and Finlayson streets for a report that one driver had pointed a gun at another driver.

The victim reported at around 9.45 am that another vehicle was driving dangerously in front of him and prevented other traffic from passing.

When the victim was able to pass, the other driver started yelling and pointing the gun.

The victim left the area, arrived at a safe place and called 911, and also managed to use his mobile phone to take pictures of the suspicious vehicle, which he shared with police.

Shortly afterwards, police received a notification that a vehicle was parked in front of a business at Block 3000 on Shelbourne Street and that the driver was showing signs of deterioration.

His description matched that given to the driver in the previous incident, and officers stopped him at gunpoint.

They searched the car and found a shotgun that looked like a pistol, as well as drugs and drug paraphernalia. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to police cells for further investigation into the drugs.

Police said the car had a number of deficiencies that made it unsafe to drive.

The man was released on bail and faces the recommended charges of pointing a gun and driving with problems. He also received a 24-hour driving ban and tickets for both traffic violations and cannabis law violations.

Victoria police are still looking for witnesses. Call 250-995-7654, extension 1, with any information.
