A Montreal man faces a long list of charges after he crashed into three different vehicles last week while fleeing police in a stolen SUV in the Durham area.
Police say officers were first sent to a plaza near Taunton Road East and Harmony Road North in Oshawa around 2:30 a.m. Friday for a suspicious vehicle call.
Officers say they then determined the vehicle was stolen from a residence elsewhere in Oshawa earlier that day.
He left the area before officers moved, but later located near Baldwin Street North and Highway 407.
Police say officers tried to stop the vehicle at the time, but the driver refused to stop.
Police say they later suspended the chase for “security issues.”
The stolen vehicle continued to drive erratically and crashed into a busy Dodge Caravan near Winchester Road East and Baldwin Street North and then crashed into an unoccupied red Audi AQ5 and a busy GMC Terrain, “a statement said Monday. “One of the occupants was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not endanger his life.”
Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle tried to flee the scene on foot following the crashes, but was eventually stopped in a wooded area with the assistance of the K-9 unit.
Jean-Baptiste Ronel, 19, of Montreal, faces nine charges, including fleeing police and stealing a motor vehicle.
He is being held pending bail.
