Drivers can expect delays if traveling on Coquihalla Road this long weekend.
Due to the damage caused by the November 2021 floods and ongoing reconstruction work, parts of the highway are two-lane in each direction. The heaviest traffic volumes are expected to be Sunday from 1pm to 8pm, according to the British Columbia Ministry of Transport.
Drivers are advised to adjust their travel plans to avoid rush hours or to consider using Highway 3 as an alternative route between the interior and the Lower Mainland.
Drivers on other routes in the province should also expect above-average traffic volumes and plan accordingly.
General tips for a safe trip include:
– allow more time to get to your destination due to more people on the roads;
– Make sure your vehicle is ready to drive with the tank full of gasoline or the battery charged, checking the engine oil, washing fluid, lights and tires, including the spare one;
– packing food and water for passengers and pets;
– plan breaks in rest areas, which can be identified by:
– monitor motorcyclists and share the road with cyclists and other users;
– Obey all published speed limits and drive with caution, especially in bad weather;
– leave the phone alone while behind the wheel;
– Ensure that all passengers wear seat belts at all times; i
– never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
