Dustin Johnson, the former world No. 1 golfer and Masters 2020 champion, said Tuesday that he was giving up the PGA Tour as he prepared for the first LIV Golf tournament.
Johnson is one of the best golfers who decided to join the Saudi-funded golf league. He, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Kevin Na are among those competing in their tournaments.

“Obviously at this point it’s hard to talk about what the consequences will be, but right now I’m giving up my Tour membership,” he said. “I’m going to play here for now. That’s the plan. But what the consequences will be, I obviously can’t comment on how the Tour will do it.”
Johnson said he still plans to play the majors unless he hears otherwise.
Apparently, Johnson was lured away from the Tour by an attractive offer. According to The Telegraph last week, Johnson signed a $ 125 million deal, although the duration of the deal was not immediately known.

He said in February that he was committed to the PGA Tour. It was unclear what changed.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan told officers his customers could not play on both tours, according to ESPN.
“As all our members were informed on May 10, PGA Tour members have not been allowed to participate in the London Golf League event in London, in accordance with the rules of the PGA Tour tournament. “The PGA Tour said in a statement. “Members who violate Tournament Rules are subject to disciplinary action.”
In May, the PGA Tour denied the launches to players who wanted to skip the RBC Canadian Open to play the first LIV Golf event at the Centurion Golf Club in London.
