A Suffolk police spokesman confirmed shortly after 9 p.m., that the fire had been extinguished, but that an investigation into the cause would be carried out.

He said, “No one was injured in the incident and the fire did not spread to any nearby property.”

In an update shortly after 9:45 p.m., Matt Webster, the station’s director, said the fire was under control and was being reduced.

He said: “It is about seven acres of standing crop and about 200 meters of hedge.

“The crews have worked tirelessly with the heat and have managed to stop the fire early and have prevented a lot of damage from being caused to nearby properties.”

Teams are expected to remain at the scene for “a while longer” to make sure the fire does not re-ignite.

Firefighters from Ipswich East, Princes Street, Holbrook, Leiston and Hadleigh were called to the incident.

The fire comes after two more wildfires in Ipswich in recent days, in Ravenswood and next to Bramford Lane.
