Elden Ring hasn’t seen any love in a while, but patch 1.06 is here. There’s not much new, although most notably the update means you can now do co-op or raids in multiple locations at once, as well as having a larger raid area. There’s also a mysterious new NPC that’s supposed to help you progress through Varre’s questline without entering multiplayer at all, though in typical FromSoftware fashion there’s no word on where to find this helpful companion. Still, the update is huge, at least in terms of gameplay tweaks.
The much-maligned Bloodhound Step, an Ash of War that allows you to dodge attacks at high speed while turning invisible, has been disabled because the more you use it, the less effective it becomes. Bloodhound Step also goes above and beyond when you have a light rig, but FromSoftware seems to have touched almost everything to do with low loads. You can now roll further when you’re not carrying much, for example. Still, the Bloodhound Step nerf is pretty big news for anyone involved in multiplayer. Recently, in a survey of 10,000 players, the most frequently used skill was one of the most cited reasons for believing that multiplayer was broken and unbalanced.
And you can believe that players are happy about it: almost every response to the announcement on Twitter celebrates the demise of Bloodhound.

One of the other highly requested changes is a Corpse Piler drop. Corpse Piler is the ability linked to the popular weapon Rivers of Blood, where the player swings the sword in an “X” shape that leaves behind a trail of blood. If the enemy is hit by the track or real weapon, it will deal damage, blood stab stack and fire damage. Now, however, the trail of blood left behind isn’t as effective as it used to be, with less damage and bleeding spread across hits. The actual blade also does less damage, but only slightly, according to the patch notes. That seems fair, really.

Unfortunately, Astrologer favorite Glintstone Pebble now does less damage, but goes farther than before. The spell didn’t do much damage, but could be cast quickly at a low FP cost, and also made riding sorcery much easier. Despite finding a wide variety of more powerful spells, I had the Pebble equipped for maybe 75% of my game.
“Bonk” players should also be very happy, because the patch makes Greatswords and Great Hammers much better. If you use bonk, you can now roll faster after attacking, charge attacks happen faster, and axes are faster.
