The NPD group has released its latest monthly sales report, which reveals which games and consoles sold best during June 2022, and once again, Elden Ring was a standout.
Elden Ring was the best-selling game of June 2022 and remains the best-selling title of 2022 to date. Also, after just five months on the market, Elden Ring is already among the top 10 best-selling premium games in U.S. history for dollar sales, NPD said. Again, these are not units sold, but dollars driven. The research firm did not share the full list of the top 10, so it is unclear where Elden Ring ranks.

Following the publication of this story, the NPD Group issued a retraction for the section of its note related to the fact that Elden Ring was among the 10 best-selling premium games in the United States of all time. This may not be true and NPD apologized for the mistake. “This is based on an incomplete data set,” NPD said.

Elden Ring has been the best-selling game in terms of U.S. dollar sales every month since its release in February, except April, which is when Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga reigned supreme.
Developed by From Software, Elden Ring is expected to be the best-selling game of 2022 in the US, surpassing even Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. It would be a great result, but it’s not a perfect or entirely fair comparison, as Elden Ring was released in February and Modern Warfare 2 arrives in late October.
Elsewhere in terms of software, Overwatch returned to the charts (in fifth place overall) for the first time since October 2019. The beta of Overwatch 2 that began on June 28 helped drive the game back on the charts, NPD said.
Final Fantasy VII: Remake had a big increase in June 2022, finishing 9th, after ranking 15th in May. NPD said the promotional events for the game’s 25th anniversary helped boost sales.
In terms of hardware, the PS5 generated more spending in dollars, while the Switch was the best-selling console in June 2022 by units sold. The PS5 is gaining strength as it saw double-digit percentage growth in dollar sales in June 2022 compared to June 2021, NPD said. However, total console spending in June 2022 fell 8% year-on-year to $ 371 million.
In terms of mobile games, spending was down 10.7% year-on-year, and the drop was mainly attributed to lower results on Google Play. Spending on Apple’s App Store, however, rose year-over-year, but only 0.16%. Some of the most lucrative mobile games of June 2022 include Candy Crush Saga, Roblox, Pokemon Go, Coin Master, Evony: The King’s Return, Royal Match, Diablo Immortal, Bingo Blitz, State of Survival: Zombie War and Clash of Clans. .
In terms of accessories, the midnight black DualSense PS5 controller was the best-selling accessory of June 2022. Total accessory spending fell 15% year-on-year to $ 176 million in June 2022.
In games, consoles and accessories, total spending on video games in the US in June 2022 fell 11% year-on-year to $ 4.3 billion. Subscription spending rose year after year, but not enough to offset the falls in all other categories. Similarly, during the first half of 2022, spending fell 10% to $ 26.3 billion, and subscription content was the only category to grow.
