Elon Musk responded to Donald Trump Monday night with a series of scathing tweets, urging the former president to give up his ambitions for a political comeback.
Musk’s comments came after Trump attacked the Tesla CEO at his rally on Saturday in Anchorage, Alaska.
“I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat and navigate toward sunset,” Musk wrote on Twitter Monday evening. “Democrats should also undo the attack; don’t do it because the only way for Trump to survive is to regain the presidency.”
But it didn’t end there. Musk took another chance, in the age of Trump.
“Trump would be 82 at the end of his term, which is too old to be the executive director of anything, let alone the United States of America,” Musk continued. “Yes [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will win easily, he doesn’t even need to campaign. “
The SpaceX founder also responded to Trump’s claim in his statement that Musk told Trump he had voted for him.
“It’s not true,” Musk said.
A Trump spokesman did not return Monday night’s request for comment from The Daily Beast.
Although Trump has long publicly mocked a White House candidacy in 2024, a source close to the former president recently told The Daily Beast that no official decision had been made, adding: “It ‘s a personal decision between [Trump] and his family. “
Still, the 45th president has continued to hold large rallies, where he has criticized all sorts of opponents, including the head of Tesla.
“Elon. Elon won’t buy Twitter. Where did he feel it before? About me,” Trump said at his rally Saturday night, pointing to Musk for rejecting his purchase of the social media platform.
“You know, he said the other day, ‘Oh, I’ve never voted a Republican.’ I said, ‘I didn’t know.’ He told me he voted for me. So he’s another shitty artist.” add Trump to the rally before tearing Musk apart for his “rotten” contract with Twitter.
The beards marked a turning point in the couple’s dynamics even just a few months ago. In May, Musk stated at a conference organized by the Financial Times that he would restore the former president’s Twitter account if his acquisition succeeded.
“I don’t think it was right to ban Donald Trump. I think it was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and didn’t cause Donald Trump to have no voice,” Musk said.
The Tesla CEO had previously served on two of Trump’s presidential advisory boards. However, he resigned when the then president withdrew from the Paris Agreement, an international commitment to reduce the effects of climate change.
More recently, the billionaire has become embroiled in the Biden administration, claiming that he overlooked Tesla when he highlighted the efforts of American automakers to produce more environmentally friendly vehicles.
Apparently fed up with the two leaders, Musk has moved on to DeSantis. It remains to be seen how long this alliance will last.
