Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Monday that he believes former President Donald Trump should “hang up his hat and sail toward sunset.”
Writing on Twitter, where Musk has more than 100 million followers, the celebrity general manager said, “I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat and sail toward sunset. The others should too. to cancel the attack. – Don’t do it because the only way for Trump to survive is to regain the presidency. “
A select bipartisan House committee is holding public hearings to present the initial findings of a one-year investigation into the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol by a violent crowd of Trump supporters. The next public court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
Over the weekend, Trump called Elon Musk a “bull artist” alleging that Musk said he voted for Trump in previous talks between the two men. But Musk tweeted to deny that claim and responded to Trump Monday evening.
The Tesla CEO said earlier that his first vote for a Republican was for Mayra Flores, the winner of a special election in South Texas in June.
Last month, Musk also revealed that he was “leaning” to vote for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis if he ran for president in 2024.
Musk’s comments about Trump came after a tense day for his business.
SpaceX, its reusable rocket company, conducted a ground test of a rocket propellant that ended in an unexpected explosion in Boca Chica, Texas.
Musk also faced a legal challenge from Twitter on Monday, after seeking to rescind a previous deal he reached to acquire the social network for $ 54.20 per share. Twitter says its basis for terminating the deal was “invalid and unlawful.”
Musk’s electric vehicle maker Tesla saw shares fall on Monday after Shanghai stepped up massive Covid tests following reports of two dozen new cases there. The tests generated fears of a resurgence and more blockages that could further hinder the operations of the Tesla factory in China.
