Emma Raducanu lost in the second round of the French Open before playing in Nottingham
Emma Raducanu is expected to be fit for Wimbledon after an examination showed that the injury that forced her to retire from the Nottingham Open was a lateral strain.
The U.S. Open champion retired just seven games on Tuesday in her first home game of the season in Nottingham.
The injury is not said to be serious, but he will not be able to play in next week’s WTA event in Birmingham.
The 19-year-old has been advised to rest for a few days and is likely to play Eastbourne next week.
“It was disappointing to come out this week with a side injury and unfortunately I will no longer be able to play in Birmingham,” Raducanu said.
“I look forward to returning to the game court soon to enjoy the rest of the turf season.”
The British number one said he had “no idea” whether he could recover in time for Wimbledon – which will start on June 27 – after suffering a left-sided injury against Swiss world number 55 Viktorija Golubic.
It was the world’s third No. 11 halftime retreat since winning the U.S. Open in 2021, after leaving matches in Guadalajara in February and Rome in May with injuries.
