Major League Baseball is back in the sky tonight. Or is it Iowa?
The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are in a stadium next to the filming location of the iconic 1989 movie “Field of Dreams,” where Ray Kinsella (played by Kevin Costner) built a baseball field in the middle from his cornfields under the guidance of a mysterious voice that told him, “If you build it, they will come.”

The 2021 game was a back-and-forth between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton homered in a four-run ninth inning to put the Yankees ahead by one. That joy was short-lived, however, as White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson singled into the darkened cornfields for a two-run outing.

Scoring early and often
The Cubs didn’t have to wait long to score the first runs of the game. Starting with Seiya Suzuki driving home Patrick Wisdom, they piled on three runs in the top of the first.

A father-son moment
Before the first pitch, Reds great Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. they left the cornfields with a right to “have a catch,” followed by the current Reds and Cubs. They all walked together to the infield where they were greeted by Hall of Famers and former players from each team. Cubs legend Ferguson Jenkins threw out the first pitch to former Reds star Johnny Bench. — Jesse Rogers

Taking it all
Before the game, Cubs and Reds players enjoyed a tour of the field. There is a path through the cornfields that leads to the location where scenes of the 1989 sports drama were filmed.
