Owner Evangelos Marinakis has promised that the promotion is “just the beginning” for Nottingham Forest.
The Reds ended a 23-year absence from the top flight by winning 1-0 at Huddersfield Town in the Wembley Championship play-off final. And success marks a realization of Marinakis’ ambition for the club.
Since taking over in May 2017, the Greek has been aiming for a return to the Premier League. Five years later, his dream has come true, with Chief Steve Cooper triumphing where many others before him had fallen short.

Marinakis went to the national stadium to witness the climax of a remarkable season, lifting the trophy and taking time to congratulate the coach, as well as some of the coaches and players. On social media, he paid tribute to the Welshman, along with CEO Dane Murphy, football director Kyriakos Dourekas and his son Miltiadis, who this season has played a more important role in the management of the club.
Marinakis wrote: “Nottingham Forest has returned to its place after 23 long years. Let’s go back to the @premierleague!
“I am very proud of all the members of the Club for this historic success. I am grateful for the fantastic support from our fans who have shown that we are a solid #NFFC family.
“Personally, I would like to congratulate coach Steve Cooper and his team who have done a great job since they took over, the management, Dane, Koulis and my son @ mil7iadis, who has had this year “We want to rewrite history and win more trophies! This is just the beginning of the REDs. #Believe #WeKeepOnDreaming @officialnffc”
