Apple iPhone 13: When will the iPhone 14 be revealed?
David Phelan
Apple’s biggest special event of the year, most years anyway, is when it unveils its new iPhone. And this year, it looks like there will be four. But when, exactly, will they be released, when will they go on sale, and what will they be called? Keep reading.
July 9 update below. This publication was first published on July 6, 2022.

Apple is a creature of habits, so we can deduce a lot of information about what is likely to happen this year from what has happened before.
July 9 update. More reports on this year’s iPhone launch schedule suggest that Apple is about to have the most varied range of iPhones ever. More on that in a moment.
And more reports point to the date I suggested below. The 9to5Mac analysis is perfected on the same date as September 13th. Leaker iHacktu tweeted about “the introduction of the iPhone 14 on September 13, 2022.”
In addition, iDropnews recently stated, “From what I understand, Apple has something planned internally for ‘Week 37.’ The Cupertino-based company usually holds all of its events on a Tuesday.” Week 37 is the week that begins on September 12, which reduces things to exactly the same date.
As always, two predictions do not necessarily indicate additional certainty, but this mention of LeaksApplePro, which has a decent track record, suggests that more information is at stake here. So that helps.
Meanwhile, Tom’s Guide has confirmed today that he also believes that September 13 is the most likely date, working from the same leaks and information, and the recognition that Apple is a creature of habits, so it is it will likely fit in with what you have done in the past. .
It also speculates with other details of the launch schedule, specifically about which iPhones are about to be canceled.
It suggests, and I agree, that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be withdrawn from sale with the announcement of the new models. So, if what you’re looking for is a Pro, grab it before September 13th: Apple picks up phones on the day of the announcement, not the day new models are released.
Alternatively, if you want an iPhone Pro, it’s best to wait until the iPhone 14 Pro goes on sale. Apple’s routine is interesting: the Pro and Pro Max are the most expensive iPhones, so you might expect a company to keep them as long as possible, but Apple decides to eliminate them after a year.
What’s also likely is that the oldest iPhone on sale right now, the iPhone 11, will also be retired in September. This is Apple’s usual routine and this year has the advantage that all Face ID iPhones will have a uniform design language with flat screen and straight edges instead of padded glass and rounded antenna band. This smoother finish will be limited to the iPhone SE only. Again, if you prefer the cozy feel this design offers, move in before September 13th.
Assuming these details are correct, it will leave Apple with the most diverse range to date. There will be two models of iPhone 14 Pro, the normal iPhone 14, all as usual, and for the first time a large screen iPhone 14.
But there will also be the iPhone 13, at a conveniently reduced price, and surely the iPhone 13 mini. Oh, and the affordable iPhone SE. In addition, two more possibilities: the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini. My guess is that the iPhone 12 will stay, but maybe the iPhone 12 mini won’t. Not because it was apparently not as successful, but because it would have to come down to a price not much higher than the iPhone SE, which would be confusing.
In other words, this is what I hope will be announced on September 13 as the full range of iPhone: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max (if you call it that), iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Then there will be iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 and iPhone SE. Eight phones, like now, but with more variety than before, because it will offer something for everyone.

it’s already september
September is Apple’s favorite month to launch its flagship phones, with very few exceptions. The first iPhone was introduced in 2007, in January. The next three, the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, appeared at WWDC in June 2008, 2009 and 2010. Then came the change to an autumn revelation. October 2011 saw the arrival of the iPhone 4s.
Since then, September has been the month of announcements and releases. Well, there was an exception to that, when Covid delayed the launch in October 2020. When the iPhone 13 was launched in September, it meant that the iPhone 12 Pro series was taken off the market after 11 months, No. 12, a record. break early cancellation.
While the Covid-19 is still among us, there is enough normalcy about the world and the production line to have confidence that September will be the month of choice.
The announcement and launch are different
Normally, the date of sale of the phone is 11 days after the presentation, but sometimes not. When the iPhone 8 and iPhone X were unveiled on the same day in September 2017, the iPhone X came out in November. Similarly, the following year, the iPhone XS and XR were announced on the same day, but the XR arrived a couple of weeks after the XS.
Will there be a delay for any model this year?
At the moment, we do not know. There are rumors that a model could be delayed, the iPhone 14 Max. But we’re far enough away from the launch that things could change quite a bit.

So what date exactly?
Apple favors Tuesday as the best day for special events, though Monday and Wednesday are not ruled out. One of the reasons for this Tuesday is the need for press representatives to come from all over the world.
Apple always chooses the first or second week of September, rather than later in the month, allowing us to choose between two dates, Tuesday, September 6, and Tuesday, September 13. Since Monday, September 5 is Labor Day, that rules it out. September 6th.
Are you assuming it’s a live event?
This is the crucial question. If it’s a virtual event, then any of the dates is possible, but I guess Apple will want to have a full in-person event or a hybrid setup like it was used for the WWDC – a brilliant, high-value production . film made in advance but with a face-to-face screening. This has the advantage that if things got worse, as far as Covid is concerned, that the face-to-face element can be canceled, but there is still something to show the world.
I think Apple will strive every muscle to have an event in person, but it will have its Hollywood recording ready.
That means?
If it’s only virtual, any day in the first two weeks is possible, but I’m pretty sure it will be a hybrid event, so Wednesday, Sept. 7 or Tuesday, Sept. 13 seems more likely to me. I will put my money away on Tuesday, September 13th.
In turn, this means that the phones will go on sale on Friday, September 23, 2022.
What time?
Well, I promised to be exact. It will be, as always, at 10:00 local time and, as is sure to take place in Cupertino, this is 10:00 Pacific time.
What will it be called?
Last year, there were some questions about whether Apple would call its 2022 launch the iPhone 12s or the iPhone 13. The fact that Apple has gone straight to the iPhone 13 tells me that the iPhone 14 is what can we expect this year. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are add-ons for the premium phone, which leaves the fourth phone.
So far, it has been mainly called the iPhone 14 Max, as it is believed to have a 6.7-inch screen, as the iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to have. But a recent report suggests it could be called the iPhone 14 Plus. See me.
I’m sure more details will come out during the pre-September period, so please check back.
