The Ide roundabout in the Alphington area of Exeter will be closed for “predictable” due to a large truck fire. Emergency services are currently at the scene responding to the incident that caused a roadblock on the A377.
In a Twitter update, a spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) confirmed that the roundabout remains closed as, despite best efforts, its load continues to re-ignite and it is not safe to return to open the road. A DSFRS spokesman wrote in a statement on Twitter: “Unfortunately, the Ide roundabout near Exeter will be closed as expected due to a truck fire. A spokesman for Devon and Somerset firefighters said: “We are currently facing a major vehicle fire right next to the Alphington roundabout. It is a truck with a trailer full of electrical waste. The cab has come off the trailer. There is a column of smoke, and we advise local residents to stay out of the smoke and close the windows.
