GoFundMe has reportedly eliminated a $ 1 million false fundraiser claiming to help Amber Heard pay damages to Johnny Depp.
The GoFundMe page was launched after the trial between Heard and Depp ended this week with the victory of the Pirates of the Caribbean star, according to TMZ.
The creator of the campaign falsely claimed that he had contacted Heart’s camp and that the Aquaman actor would receive the money raised, according to reports.
According to screenshots shared by the same media, the GoFundMe page claimed to be in contact with Heard’s legal team and that Heard would have direct access to any funds.
The fundraiser, entitled “Justice for Amber Heard,” read: “The trial was a disgrace. I think Amber and social media protected the abuser. The trial goes beyond her net worth. It’s so sad that “The abuse favors this abuse. If you can help her, please.”
“A GoFundMe spokesman says they were able to bookmark the profile quickly, before a substantial amount of money was raised,” TMZ added.
A GoFundMe representative told Insider that “it would eliminate any fundraising unless there is a direct connection and the fundraising has been authorized by the recipient of the funds.” The statement added that “GoFundMe’s top priority is to keep our community safe and to protect the generosity of our donors.”
