Fans are freaking out over the secret discovered in the popular Nier: Automata game

A user posted a video on Nier: Automata Reddit showing a room that no one else in the world has been able to access. Game modders and data miners have been unable to locate this room, which contains an unfinished scene and possible lore implications.

The video, which is only a few minutes long, shows a room built into the wall of a structure on the perimeter of a battle arena. This area, known as the Copied City, is best known for its white color palette, which describes a world created by machines.

There is no indication that this door exists, and inside the room is a long tunnel that the user can fall through. At the bottom is a previously undiscovered church, with a small scene and possible implications for the world of Nier.

Nier: Automata, which was first released in 2017, is primarily a “fixed” game. There were a handful of secrets built into the game, but developers Platinum Games claimed that they had all been found. The latest secret discovered was found by Lance “Manfightdragon” McDonald, a modder and reverse engineer who regularly dives into the code of popular titles like PT, Elden Ring and Nier: Automata.

The “ultimate secret” discovered was a hidden trigger to immediately skip the entire game five times, complete Ending E, and unlock a slew of features like debug mode, extras, and more. This was confirmed in a tweet from Nier Japan’s account, warning players to beware of spoilers.

So with the game “solved”, how is it possible that this secret went undiscovered? One theory holds that the Nier developers are using it to stealthily market the upcoming third installment of the Nier franchise. Many game modders claim that it is not possible to create entire rooms and stages in the game engine as shown in the video, and there are many clues in the video that suggest that this is not a fan hoax.

A Nier developer, Yosuke Saito, noticed the attention the Reddit thread was getting and simply had two words to say: “Eternal mystery…” Hopefully we’ll have our answers soon, as many outlets have contacted Platinum Games for additional information.
