Fatal Collision / Damaged Driver

A man was arrested and charged after a serious collision that resulted in death.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., June 8, 2022, police responded at the intersection of McKinnon Avenue South and Main Street to report a collision that caused unknown injuries. On arrival, two badly damaged vehicles were observed, a Mercedes and an Infiniti. Through the investigation, it was learned that the westbound Infiniti was hit next to the passenger by the southbound Mercedes. The Infiniti passenger, a 61-year-old Saskatoon woman, was transported to the hospital by Medavie Health Services West where she succumbed to her injuries; Notifications from relatives have been completed and police will not reveal the victim’s name. The driver of the Infiniti, a 62-year-old Saskatoon man, sustained injuries that did not endanger his life. The Collision Analysts Unit was called in to further investigate the circumstances of the collision.

Subsequent investigation found that the driver of the Mercedes, a 42-year-old Saskatoon man, was impaired; was arrested at the scene and faces charges related to the impaired driving that caused the death and the refusal to comply with a lawsuit when he became involved in a collision that caused the death. He was later released on bail and will appear in the Saskatoon Provincial Court on July 11, 2022 at 2 p.m.
