Paul Haggis, the Oscar-winning director and screenwriter of James Bond, is being held by police in Italy after being accused by a British woman of sexually assaulting her.
Haggis, a 69-year-old Canadian man, held a 30-year-old woman captive in a bed and breakfast in Ostuni, in the southern region of Puglia, for two days during which he assaulted her before leaving her to a local airport at dawn. He denies the allegations.
Discovered by the airport staff in a state of confusion and in need of medical treatment, the woman, whose name has not been given, was taken to hospital, where she required medical attention and accused the director of Hollywood sexual assault, local prosecutors said.
