The Remake trilogy is confirmed, along with the Crisis Core: Reunion this Winter and Rebirth announcements a year later.
Three massive games were announced yesterday, instead of the two we predicted. As part of the Final Fantasy 7 anniversary stream, as well as Crisis Core: Reunion coming this winter, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, officially subtitled Rebirth, was announced. The trailer is sparse and the information is light, but now it’s in the world.
It was also confirmed that there will be a third Final Fantasy 7 Remake game to complete a trilogy. The title of this title has not yet been announced: my personal bet is to restart, so I will link to this post in over 3 years to receive my praise.
Square Enix also gave a release period for “Next Winter” which is certainly pending interpretation, but offers a window from December 2023 to March 2024. FF7 Remake had a similar window and ended up being released on the 10th. April 2020. Crisis Core: Reunion, a remastering (at least based on the quality of the texture and voice acting) of the original, is expected “This Winter”, so probably in early next year.
The trailer is naturally sparse. Shows part of Kalm’s flashback to the original FFF7, where Cloud recounts his experiences with Sephiroth in Nibelheim. It’s an incredibly key scene from the original game and takes place almost immediately after the events at the end of FF7 Remake (apart from the space-and-time omni-battle against versions of the game of the future, this … this was new). Sephiroth “at the party” is a hellish shot, of course.
There are also clues to some of the larger plot of the actual remake, with Aerith talking about the past and the future that have probably changed, photos of Zack probably alive, as well as Tifa talking about his death during the Nibelheim flashback, stuff which do not usually appear in the plot until much later.
Between that, FF16, mobile games, Kingdom Hearts 4, etc., seems like a powerful couple of years for Square Enix. I hope the games live up to it.
FF7 Remake Intergrade is now available on consoles and PCs, including a Steam release a couple of hours ago.
