Square Enix showed the next installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Thursday, during a live broadcast celebrating the 25th anniversary of the seminal role-playing game. The second part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake project is titled Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and will hit PlayStation 5 “next winter,” Square Enix revealed. This could mean a launch window in late 2023 or early 2024.
The game’s creators also confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second part of a planned trilogy and that some staff members are already working on the third game in the series. The title of the third game of Final Fantasy 7 Remake was not announced.
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game, whether they know the original game or not,” creative director Tetsuya Nomura said in a statement following the game’s announcement. “In fact, new gamers can even enjoy starting their journey to Final Fantasy VII with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud and his friends are embarking on a new journey in this game, and I think the scenes they see after leaving Midgar they will offer the players a fresh new experience.
Nomura said Rebirth’s development has “progressed rapidly” and that Nomura himself has started the third game and is “working to complete the series.”
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi noted that the development of Rebirth “has already entered full production” and that the team is “developing it with all the passion and dedication necessary to create an original game and plan to offer the best gaming and construction experience in the world “.
“Three years may seem like a long time for all fans who are looking forward to the next game, but we want to offer the best possible experience and assure everyone that development is progressing at a surprisingly fast pace for such a great HD title. Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, said in a statement: “Making the middle of a trilogy has its own challenges, but there are many awesome story twists and deeper explorations of its characters. These second installments often become a favorite among fans. In the same vein, we aim to make Final Fantasy VII Rebirth an even more engaging and memorable experience than Final Fantasy VII Remake, so please wait a little longer while we’re done. “
With Final Fantasy 7 Remake no longer thinking that anything could happen in the next games, the next parts of Remake have only become more interesting. The trailer offered us scenes that fans know about, but there’s still a lot of potential because things are different from the original game.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released in April 2020, almost five years after it was first announced on PlayStation 4. The game version for PlayStation 5 and its expanded Intergrade release came the following year. Square Enix later brought Remake to Windows PC, through the Epic Games Store. A Steam version will be released on June 17th.
