Final Fantasy XIV was expected to make “considerable gains” this year

Final Fantasy XIV is likely to have a major new expansion in 2022 and early 2023.

Square Enix has big plans for Final Fantasy XIV throughout 2022. The MMORPG did very well last year, so much so that it helped Square Enix achieve record profits. The record operating profit for fiscal year 21 was driven by a significant increase in MMO segment earnings thanks in part to the Endwalker expansion of Final Fantasy XIV. The segment generated $ 511.176 billion during the year and included nearly a quarter of all net sales revenue (~ 22%).

This trend is expected to continue this year as well. This strongly indicates that another major expansion will be launched sometime in fiscal year 23. “In particular, we are very pleased with the performance of Final Fantasy XIV. We expect a significant contribution to earnings again in fiscal year 2023/3.” , said Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda in a recent presentation.

Square Enix spends considerable revenue on game development. Its content production account, which is basically a big piggy bank to fund new titles, hit an all-time high of $ 792 million last year.

The company plans to release Forspoken this year, and other major titles include Final Fantasy XVI in the summer of 2023. A new Just Cause game has also been developed.
